Explore 2 new worlds with the AR Treasure Island EaRL Mat, AR Town EaRL Mat, and Findel Free EaRL AR App! Program, EaRL (not included) to adventure around the island, completing challenges and unlocking exciting augmented reality elements.

Developed to achieve the objectives from the computing national curriculum, students can work independently, in pairs or in groups to get EaRL to where each step of the challenges asks. Once the correct grid number is written in the app, the challenge will show the AR or move on to the next step.

EaRL (not included) provides a hands-on coding and programming experience for students, allowing them to apply these computing concepts practically and engagingly. By programming EaRL to navigate environments, solve challenges, and interact with different elements of the AR mat, students can develop their understanding of algorithms, sequencing, and debugging. They also gain experience using logical reasoning to predict and control the robot’s behaviour. This can achieve cross-curricular objectives beyond computing, relating to Maths regarding Place Value and Coordinates and English with instructional writing.

The challenges are suitable for both KS1 and KS2 and can be adapted to suit different ability levels. The Free app is easily downloadable by searching ‘Findel EaRL AR’ or by clicking the link under Useful Links on this listing.

Features include: Each Mat dimensions 1.5m x 1.5m, tough wipe clean surface, suitable for all settings, easily transportable and can be packed away for storage. 

Please note, you need an EaRL coding robot which isn’t included in order to use the mat and Free AR app.

  • Iphone/iPad/iPod touch: requires iOS 14.0 or later
  • Google: Requires Android 7 or later and a device that is ARCore supported.
  • Mac: Requires macOS 11.0 or later and a Mac with Apple M1 chip as a minimum.
  • Teaches directional language and compass directions to improve geographical skills.
  • Use EaRL to create engagement in your lessons by providing a deeper learning experience through a multi-sensory approach.
  • Develop the programming skills of your KS1 or KS2 classes and prepare them for the digital future ahead of them
  • Understand what algorithms are, how they are implemented as programs on digital devices, and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions.
  • Debug simple programs whilst using logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs.
