The Year 3 Rocks and Soils Kit has been developed in-house by Hope Education to create an all-round classroom resource for investigating rocks, soils and their properties.

It has been tailored to meet the Key Stage 2 Science curriculum requirements of the Rocks and Soils Topic.

The kit contains equipment and resources put together by our curriculum experts to facilitate the teaching of the Rocks and Soils topic in Primary Science

The kit enables the teaching of the following:

Compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties.

Describe, in simple terms, how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock.

Recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.

The kit also enables a cross-curricular approach with Geography, in that pupils should explore the different kinds of rocks and soils associated with different areas.

Comprehensive lesson plans & classroom resources.

1kg bags of each of the following rock samples: Limestone, Chalk, Granite, White Marble, Sandstone, Pumice, Obsidian (with Rock Identification Cards).

Soil Pack containing a 750g bag of each of the following soil samples: Clay, Sandy, Chalk, Loam

Fossil Set containing the following: Trilobite, Echinoid, Shark Tooth, Brachiopod, Sectioned Ammonite, Ammonite, Bivalves, Plant, Sponge, Belemnite, Graptolite, Marine Reptile Bone, Crinoid Stem, Horn Coral

1 pack of 500 Weighing Boats

1 pack of Sandpaper

3 packs of 10 Plant Pots

1 pack of Broad Bean seeds
