Philip Harris Foundation Physics - Collision Carts
Philip Harris Foundation Physics - Collision Carts
Product code: EP00054188
Product Description
Foundation Physics - Collision Carts
Please Note: The Foundation Physics Universal Stand and the Inclined Plane are not included with the Collision Carts and will need to be purchased separately using codes PP00054183 and PP00054187.
- The Foundation Physics range centres around the Universal Stand and includes accessories which allow a wide range of experiments to be conducted. Each add-on includes a comprehensive instructional guide with student tasks which are linked to the curriculum.
The Foundation Physics Collisions Carts allow students to investigate collisions, momentum and conservation of energy when combined with the Foundation Physics Universal Stand and Inclined Plane (both available to purchase separately).
The carts have metal bumpers and Velcro ends which allow the demonstration of elastic and inelastic collisions.
A Photogate set-up could be used to quantitatively measure and calculate velocity.
The Collision Carts include:
- 2 x Collision Carts
- Instructions
- Teacher's Guide
- Students Guide
Additional apparatus required:
- Foundation Physics Universal Stand
- Foundation Physics Inclined Plane
- Photogate System
- Masses
- Combine with the Foundation Physics Universal Stand and Inclined Plane (both available separately) to teach around and demonstrate Motion and Forces.
- Suitable for staff and student use.
- The Foundation Physics range centres around the Universal Stand and includes accessories which allow a wide range of experiments to be conducted. Each add-on includes a comprehensive instructional guide with student tasks which are linked to the curriculum.
- Key Stage 3 Physics - Motion and Forces: Opposing forces and equilibrium: weight held by stretched spring or supported on a compressed surface. Forces being needed to cause objects to stop or start moving, or to change their speed or direction of motion (qualitative only).
- Key Stage 4 Physics - Motion and Forces: Relate linear motion as observed from one moving vehicle to its observation from another moving relative to the first. Explain that force is rate of momentum change and explain the dangers caused by large decelerations and the forces involved. Recall and apply Newton’s Third Law both to equilibrium situations and to collision interactions and relate it to the conservation of momentum in collisions.
Activities could include:
- Introduction to Momentum: how mass and velocity affect how a car behaves in a collision.
- Collisions and Momentum - Elastic and Inelastic Collisions.
- Kinetic Energy and Momentum
